Pet boutique
A Mr. Fran Libowitz once said, “If you are a dog, your owner suggest you wear a sweater…Suggest he wear a tail.”
Robert Gaudio certainly disagrees with Libowitz and has proven him wrong. At Pussy & Pooch in downtown Los Angeles, a pet boutique Gaudio opened in December 2007 with his wife Janene Zakrajsek, people buy pricy stylized dog fashion and accessories. A dog jacket can cost $60, a stylized dog leash $120. Dogs wear them without complaints.
To Gaudio, serving people is nothing exciting. On the contrary, catering to dogs is not only fun, but also unique. He caters to the urban lifestyle of modern pets and their owners, featuring an array of pet centric merchandise including modern pet furniture, pet fashion and accessories, premium spa products, toys, gifts and specializing in a variety of premium organic, raw, dehydrated and traditional pet food diets, as well as nutritional guidance geared toward maintaining pets' well-being.
One highlighted characteristic of Pussy and Pooch is their humanized dog services in a colorful, playful and edgy atmosphere and an interactive social setting for pets and their parents. For example, their swanky Paw Bar offers dogs a restaurant dining experience. Dog owners can order a meal and dog beer for their pooches just like a human walk up counter. According to Gaudio, dogs enjoy and remember being served at the paw bar. Some would pull their human parents into the store when they walk past it.
Pussy and Pooch has caught much attention and curiosity in Los Angeles.
“It is always exciting and flattering to see how people are first overwhelmed and then amazed and excited when they first come to our store,” said Gaudio.
To the staff, the best thing is that their customers are usually happy. They are neither nor picky, nor impatient. And their human parents are usually in a good mood – otherwise, they wouldn’t bring their dogs to an extravagant pet boutique.
To Gaudio, the best thing is the dog owners are willing, even eager to lavish luxury on their pets. Well, spoiling your dog is really about spoiling yourself. That feels good, doesn’t it?
Dog day care
It is always loud and lively at Bark Avenue, a dog day care center a few hundred feet from Pussy and Pooch.
Since dogs are often treated like children as well as partners, dog day care service seems necessary in Los Angeles. There are more dog day care centers than one can count in Los Angeles. Bark Avenue is just one of them.
Compared to Bubbles Pet Spa and Pussy and Pooch, Bark Avenue’s service does not appear fancy. What they do is simply play with dogs
